The first of its kind IIT Ropar iHUB – AWADH launched ;online internship carnival

The Agriculture & Water Technology Development Hub (AWaDH) at IIT Ropar is an AgriTech Innovation Hub in the framework of the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM – ICPS) to improve the overall ecosystem of agriculture and water domain in line with the developed countries. Today, the hub has announced the first of its kind “Online Internship Carnival” to inspire and enable students to explore their creativity and engineering skills in the interdisciplinary technology space for two months. The internship carnival offers a unique competitive opportunity that takes participants to a greater height of technical skills, problem-solving through teamwork, and engineering leadership. Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director of IIT Ropar, launched the “Internship Carnival” today at 3:00 pm.
While launching the internship carnival, Prof. Ahuja said that “this unique internship framework enriches the knowledge of students, affirm their career aspirations, and help them build strong future relationships with industry professionals and their peers. The interns will experience first-hand excitement and practical understanding of technology solutions to the issues related to Agriculture & Water-related issues. This Internship is designed to give a lifetime experience to undergraduates and helps them to explore new career avenues and jump-start their thought process as a future entrepreneur.”
The main objectives of this Internship Carnival is to give extensive training to the applicants by the volunteers from Industry/Academia on topics related to the projects, which include design thinking, material selection, advanced CAD practices, CFD and Finite Element Analysis, Advance topics in Systems-level modeling, Life Cycle Analysis, Project Management, Patent Search, Manufacturing simulations, Techno-economic analysis, etc.
The IIT Ropar is inviting exceptionally talented students at the level of 2nd / 3rd / 4th year UG (engineering) or equivalent from any engineering institute/university/college with specialization in but not limited to Aerospace, Computer Science & Engineering, Chemical, Mechanical, Production, Metallurgy, Materials, and Civil Engineering. The internship duration is eight weeks (May 24, 2021 – July 19, 2021) and will be imparted through online mode.
IIT Ropar iHub – AwaDH invites applications for these technology verticals:
- Electric vehicles and Cobotics for Agriculture
- Fisheries
- Post-Harvest Management
- Urban farming
- Cold chain management in rural settings
- Food processing
- Precision agriculture
- Green Hydrogen for self-reliance rural India
- Food and public distribution
- Fertilizers
Only 100 students will be selected for the Internship Carnival out of which 20 teams will be formed to work on 10 technology solutions in the domain of AgriTech. Rs 10, 000 stipendium will be paid for the Internship and a certificate of completion. After the Carnival is over, all members of the winning teams will be offered paid internships at the IIT Ropar for a duration of 6 months at IIT Ropar as per their academic schedule and convenience. In addition, winning teams will be offered travel and stay at IIT Ropar to explore future collaboration possibilities and meet the mentor faculty members. In order to inculcate the startup culture among the students, 5 out of 10 winning teams may be supported with a seed grant of Rs. 10 lakhs for running a startup based on their performance in the final round of selection.
