National Sports Day, celebrated on 29th August every year, is a day of immense pride and inspiration for the entire nation. It is a day when we remember and honor the legendary Major Dhyan Chand, whose exceptional skills and dedication to the game of hockey brought glory to our nation.

The Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University, Patiala, while acknowledging the deep-rooted importance of National Sports Day, organized a series of thrilling events that promised to ignite the spirit of sportsmanship and foster a sense of healthy competition among students.

On 25th August 2023, the students of the university, along with Professor Gursewak College of Physical Education, Patiala, competed against each other in friendly yet intense boys and girls’ basketball 🏀 and tug of war matches.The students showcased their skills and battled it out for the coveted win. Special dignitaries included Suresh Kumar,an international badminton player and Principal of Govt. Senior Sec Smart School Bahadurgarh, Rupesh Dewan (National Kho-Kho and fencing player). The presence of such esteemed dignitaries added prestige to the occasion and motivated the participants to strive for excellence in their athletic pursuits.

Further, on 26th August, boys and girls relay race was organized to promote the significance of physical fitness and overall well-being.

The Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University Celebrates National Sports Day. On 29th August, celebrating National Sports Day, a fun-filled run/walk event was organized to promote the significance of physical fitness and showcase the athletic abilities of the students. Students carrying banners and placards reflecting on the importance of sports created awareness among the general public about the importance of this day. The honorable registrar of the university, Col. Navjit Sandhu aptly felicitated the students with first, second, and third positions.

The events were graced by the esteemed Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen (Dr.) J. S Cheema, Registrar Col. Navjit Sandhu and the Principal of Gursewak College of Physical Education, Dr. Anubhav Walia.

The faculty, staff and students actively participated in these events, showcasing their enthusiasm and passion for sportsand further to make the events more memorable.
