A very ancient proverb “There is a slip between cup and the lip” proved for many, in the second inning of the present term of the congress govt. in Punjab. The context of this proverb means that there is a many a time gap between the occurrence of two events and anything can happen in this time gap and things can change in a second. We should never be sure of our success in our life until we have achieved it and should work for it until the last second.

The second inning, in present term of congress government in Punjab, under the new chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi , is a full of many surprises.

The first surprise came on September 18,2021 when senior congress leader and Punjab incharge Harish Rawat mid night message created furor in the state. He called a CLP meeting on Saturday, September 18,2021 at Congress Punjab office, Chandigarh and asked all the MLAs, minister to remain present. But as the sun rises, the temperature in congress also starts rising. Before the end of the end, Capt Amarinder Singh submitted his resignation to the governor and the process of new CLP leader or Punjab chief minister starts.

In between, as per reports, the high command has asked Sunil Jakhar to reach Chandigarh immediately, as he was out of station. He was tipped to be the new chief minister.

The first slip between cup and the lip fits on Sunil Jakhar. As the time passes, his name dropped and some other names starts coming. By Sunday morning (September 19,2021) many names came in fore for the chief minister of the border state. Finally Charanjit Singh channi won the race of chief ministership. So, Slip between cup and the lips proved right for Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Ambika Soni, Preneet kaur who were in the race of chief ministership.

Next comes Brahm Mohindra, whose name was finalized for the post of deputy chief minister. But at the last moment, just few minutes before the beginning of the oath taking ceremony, his name was dropped and OP Soni took the oath along with chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi and deputy chief minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa.

In 15 member’s cabinet team, many MLAs have “slip between cup and the lip” experience, in one week period. But this proved nightmare for Kuljit Singh Nagra as his name was dropped like Brahm Mohindra, just few minutes before the oath taking ceremony.

Then came the number of bureaucrats. After the formation of the govt, Aniudh Tiwari replaces Vini Mahajn as chief secretary. So, slip between cup and the lip proved for atleast six senor IAS officers.

Likewise in police this proved for some senior ranked officers after Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota takes the charge of DGP Punjab. Here S. Chattopadhya is the officer who experienced the slip between cup and the lip, most as his name was dropped and IPS Sahota was made the officiating DGP.

Another person who experienced slip between cup and lip is Smit, cousin of PPCC President Navjot Singh Sidhu, who was tipped as media advisor. But his appointment is halted.

Slip between cup and lip also proved for both DS Patwalia, Anmol Rattan Singh Sidhu, who were nominated as advocate general of Punjab, but their appointment was cancelled at the last minute.
