The cat is finally out of the bag. Cricketer-turned-commentator, politician, and TV personality Navjot Singh Sidhu’s wife, former doctor and politician Navjot Kaur Sidhu, has launched her own political party — the Bharatiya Rashtrawadi Party (BRP). This move could add fresh churn to Punjab’s already volatile political scenario.
Amid speculation that she might join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after being expelled from the Congress, Navjot Kaur Sidhu has instead chosen to chart her own path. She announced the launch of her party via a social media post, revealing the name Bharatiya Rashtrawadi Party (BRP). Along with the announcement, she shared a message on her social media platform by an image bearing the party’s name.
In her post, Dr. Sidhu described the development as a “much-awaited announcement” driven by “divine intervention.” She stated that the party aims to focus on public service, justice, and accountability.

She further wrote that the initiative is about “giving back to the people what they truly deserve,” adding that it is guided by a strong sense of responsibility towards the nation. Calling the formation a “divine intervention,” she said that like-minded individuals have come together with confidence and determination to work across states with a shared vision of peace and justice.
The announcement comes barely two months after her dramatic exit from the Congress party. She was first suspended and later expelled following sharp criticism of party leader Rahul Gandhi and Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring. Her remarks — including referring to Gandhi as “pappu” and alleging that a “₹500 crore suitcase” influenced leadership decisions in the Congress — had sparked controversy and deepened the rift within the party.
