To promote organ donation, Government Medical College Patiala hosts a training session for surgeons

Promoting Organ Donation & Advancing Transplant Services in Punjab, Government Medical College (GMC), Patiala, in collaboration with PGIMER Chandigarh – ROTTO North, successfully conducted a Hands-on Cadaveric Workshop: Master class on Abdominal Organ Retrieval. This initiative aims to strengthen organ donation and transplant services in Punjab’s government sector.

Expert faculty from PGIMER Chandigarh’s Department of Renal Transplant Surgery, led by Dr. Ashish Sharma, provided hands-on training to surgeons of govt medical college patiala as well private institutes Manipal & Park Hospital Patiala and Max Hospital Mohali , on deceased donor organ retrieval, a critical step in organ transplantation.

The workshop was organized under the leadership of Dr. Rajan Singla, Director Principal, GMC Patiala & Chairperson, SOTTO Punjab, with coordination by Dr. Gagneen Kaur Sandhu, Nodal Officer, SOTTO Punjab.

Addressing the participants, experts emphasized the urgent need to enhance organ donation awareness and establish robust transplant services in Punjab’s government as well private  hospitals. The initiative aligns with efforts to bridge the gap between demand and availability of organs, ensuring equitable access to transplantation for all.

The event concluded with a call for greater public awareness and policy support to strengthen cadaveric organ donation programs, paving the way for Punjab to emerge as a leader in deceased organ transplantation.
