After, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Monday directed all states and union territories to conduct the drills to test and strengthen the country’s preparedness, today IAF decided to carry out a large-scale exercise over the desert sector and adjoining areas along the India-Pakistan border from Wednesday amid escalating tensions between the two countries over the Pahalgam terror attack.

The major nationwide civil defence mock drill on ground will be held on Wednesday (May 7), expected to take place in over 250 districts of the country.

According to a report by news agency ANI quoting IAF officials, the fighter jets, including the Rafale, Mirage 2000 and Sukhoi-30s will participate in the exercise. The IAF will hold the military drills in Rajasthan, a NOTAM or Notice to Airmen issued on Tuesday said. The NOTAM indicates restricted airspace usage in a region during the period, signalling preparations for a large-scale military drill.

The military drills will begin at 9.30 pm on Wednesday (May 7) and end after over five hours, during which the flights departing or landing at the airport close to the border will be suspended.

The mock drills in India also include the operationalisation of hotline and radio-communication links with the Indian Air Force (IAF), testing the functionality of control rooms and shadow control rooms.
