Turncoat leader to head BJP in Punjab; Capt. Amarinder’s colleague appointed state president. As per available information, Capt Amarinder Singh was putting his weight behind his former congress party colleague Sunil Jakhar for the state president ship. But, many BJP core party leaders were objecting for Jakhar’s elevation as president.

After joining the saffron party, it was expected that he may be nominated to the upper house-Rajya Sabha. But, that was not materialized.

Now,Jakhar was eyeing for Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat in the upcoming 2024 parliamentary elections as he remained Gurdaspur MP from December 15, 2017 till June 18, 2019. But, saffron party seems to be interested in fielding the incumbent state president Ashwani Sharma, who belongs to Pathankot, a part of Gurdaspur Lok sabha seat.  A former Lok Sabha MP from Gurdaspur, Jakhar, 68, has served twice as the MLA of Abohar assembly constituency.
