The two robotic knee replacement surgeries were performed successfully recently at Amandeep Ojas Centre of Excellence for Knee Replacement, Panchkula.
Addressing a press briefing today, Dr Avtar Singh a chief orthopedic surgeon at Amandeep Hospital, Amritsar and world’s first Punjabi surgeon to practice robotic knee replacement surgery said that a surgery with this technology enables the surgeon to precisely remove only the damaged part of the damaged bone, while saving all the natural structures in the knee. This leads to a more normal feeling knee and quicker recovery for the patient.”
Dr. Avtar said, “The robotics enabled artificial intelligence helps achieve more precision and accuracy in the surgery with the bone cuts which has not been possible until now with the manual method of performing surgery. At the end of the surgery the knee implant is almost a custom-fit for the patient and they forget they have even had a surgery.”
“The best thing about robotics is that it is available for both total knee replacement and Partial knee replacement as all patients may not be eligible for a partial knee. In partial knee replacements too, it gives the same benefits to the patients,” said Dr. Suresh Singla, director-department of ortho who assisted Dr Singh in surgeries.
The patient Gurpal Singh ( name changed ) said that he was ailing with severe pain in his knee from last few months. He was looking for something advanced, safer & secure & more reliable and robotic assisted knee preplacement served his purpose.
