In compliance with the Akal Takht directions, former SAD ministers and rebel leaders Parminder Singh Dhindsa and Jagir Kaur are going to appear at Akal Takht on Monday, September 9,2024 to submit their separate explanations to explain their stance on being part of the Parkash Singh Badal led SAD-BJP cabinet when some contentious decisions were taken.

Both leaders has resigned from their party posts. Till date few other leaders, who were ministers during the SAD-BJP government from 2007 to 2017 had already appeared before the five high priests and submitted their explanation.

In the last week of August, a meeting of the five high priests was convened by Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh at the Akal Takht secretariat where it was unanimously decided to declare SAD president and former deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal tankhaiya (guilty of religious misconduct) for the “mistakes” committed by the SAD and its government from 2007 to 2017 and also summoned Sikh members of his cabinet during the SAD-BJP regimes and have been asked to give explanation.

On July 24, without specifically mentioning the “mistakes”, SAD supremo Sukhbir Singh Badal had owned up responsibility for part sins committed during SAD-BJP ten year ruling and sought unconditional forgiveness from Akal Takht in writing. Allegations were levelled against him by a group of dissident Akali leaders.

The matters which have become contentious now were neither discussed with ministers in the cabinet and nor were ever talked at the party level.”
