The UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre at Punjabi University, Patiala, proudly marks the successful culmination of the Interdisciplinary Refresher Program on “Languages” (Online). This extensive two-week digital initiative, conducted from January 08 to January 23, 2025, adhered to the guidelines established by UGC-MHRD. Esteemed educators and professionals from various states and renowned universities across India took part in this transformative course, which aimed to furnish participants with advanced expertise and skills in the realm of languages.

The valedictory ceremony began with the traditional Punjabi University Dhuni, setting a solemn and respectful tone. This was followed by an engaging welcome speech delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Raman Maini, Professor in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering and Director of UGC-MMTTC, Punjabi University, Patiala. Dr. Maini reflected on the past 12 Days, describing it as an intellectually stimulating period filled with thought-provoking discussions, cutting-edge research insights, and collaborative learning experiences. He noted that the Refresher Course on Languages had been a journey marked by intellectual development, teamwork, and creativity, empowering participants with contemporary methodologies to enhance both their teaching and research capacities. Dr. Maini congratulated all participants for their active engagement and dedication, emphasizing that this program represents the beginning of new avenues for interdisciplinary collaboration, innovative pedagogy, and impactful contributions to the field of languages.

The ceremony continued with an inspiring keynote speech from the Chief Guest, Jaswant Singh Zafar, Director of the Language Department, Punjab. Singh highlighted the program’s significance as a unique platform for educators from diverse institutions nationwide to exchange ideas, collaborate, and collectively expand their knowledge. He encouraged participants to “Broaden Their Perspectives” by embracing emerging trends and challenges in the study of languages, particularly in light of technological advancements and evolving research paradigms. Singh also praised Dr. Raman Maini for his tireless efforts and dedication, which played a pivotal role in the program’s success.

Dr. Kawaljeet Singh, Director of the University Computer Centre, Punjabi University, Patiala, and Guest of Honour, extended his heartfelt congratulations to all participants on their successful completion of the course. He underlined that such initiatives provide immersive opportunities to explore and appreciate the global diversity of languages, urging attendees to adopt innovative ideas and practical approaches to address worldwide linguistic challenges. Dr. Singh acknowledged that the program had effectively achieved its objectives by fostering participants’ teaching, research, and interdisciplinary learning skills.

Participants shared their reflections on the course, expressing gratitude for the enriching and transformative experience. The event concluded with vibrant cultural performances by the participants, adding a lively and celebratory dimension to the closing ceremony.

Dr. Shivani Thakar, Associate Professor, Centre for Distance and Online Education, Punjabi University, Patiala, and Course Coordinator, expressed immense pride in the participantsenthusiasm and commitment throughout the program. She applauded their active engagement with interdisciplinary themes and their collaborative efforts to tackle critical questions in the field of languages. Dr. Thakar emphasized that the knowledge and competencies gained during the program would empower participants to adopt innovative teaching strategies and undertake meaningful research in the domain of languages. She also extended sincere gratitude to the resource persons for their invaluable guidance, which significantly contributed to the program’s success.

Dr. Rajwinder Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Punjabi and the Course Co-Coordinator of the Refresher Course in Languages, while addressing all the participants, stated, as you move forward, I encourage you to maintain your curiosity and embrace every opportunity to learn and grow. He Said the participants apply the skills and knowledge you’ve gained here not only to enhance your own work but also to inspire and create positive change in your communities and workplaces.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Maini expressed profound appreciation for the dedicated efforts of the support staff, including Er. Mandeep Singh, Dyal Dutt, Surinder Singh,  Kanta Rani, Mahaveer Singh, and  Surinder Kumar. He highlighted their exceptional organizational abilities and critical contributions in ensuring the smooth execution of all sessions, even in a virtual setting.
