UGC-MMTTC, Punjabi University commences Short Term Course on “Research Methodology and Ethics”

Under the dynamic leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Jagdeep Singh, Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala, the UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC), Punjabi University, Patiala, commenced a 6-day Short Term Course on Research Methodology and Ethics.
The Purpose of this Short-Term Course is to equip faculty members, researchers, and scholars with the essential skills and knowledge required to undertake quality research in a systematic and ethical manner. The programme aims to provide, participants with a sound understanding of research design, tools, and techniques; Cultivate awareness about ethical practices in research, including issues related to plagiarism, authorship, data integrity, and academic honesty; Familiarize them with modern methods of data collection, analysis, and interpretation. Prof. (Dr.) Raman Maini, Director of the UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre, Punjabi University, Patiala, stated that the programme, organized under the guidelines of the UGC-MHRD, will be conducted online from August 19, 2025 to August26, 2025.
Prof. Maini welcomed the chief guest of the day Prof. (Dr.) Jagdeep Singh, Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala and Guest of Honour Prof. (Dr.) Ritu Lehal, Professor, School of Management Studies and Dean Research, Punjabi University, Patiala. He thanked Course Coordinator Prof. (Dr.)Balraj Singh Saini, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Dean College Development Council, Punjabi University, Patiala for his efforts.Dr. Maini welcomed all the Participants and assured all the participants that the course would feature sessions by renowned and experienced resource persons.
Prof. (Dr.) Raman Maini, Director of the UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre, Punjabi University, Patiala said that at MMTTC, we believe that education is the most powerful weapon to bring meaningful change. Through this Short-Term Course, we aspire to build a community that is aware, prepared and provide a platform where quality teaching meets quality research. Research is not merely a pursuit of knowledge — it is a responsibility. Dr Maini said in an age where information is abundant but discernment is scarce, the principles of methodology and ethics form the backbone of credible scholarship. Methodology gives research its structure and clarity, while ethics ensures its integrity and societal value. Without these two pillars, even the most sophisticated study risks becoming hollow.
The Chief Guest of the day Prof. (Dr.) Jagdeep Singh, Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala,emphasized that research methodology and ethics form the backbone of quality research. He underscored the significance of adopting scientific methods, systematic approaches, and critical thinking in carrying out research that contributes meaningfully to society. He also highlighted the role of ethics in maintaining academic integrity, stating that “true research is not only about innovation but also about responsibility, honesty, and accountability. He appreciated the efforts of Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre, Punjabi University, Patiala for organising this Programme.
Guest of Honour Prof. (Dr.) Ritu Lehal, Professor, School of Management Studies and Dean Research, Punjabi University, Patiala graced the occasion as the Guest of Honor. In her address, Dr. Lehal emphasized that research methodology serves as the backbone of any scholarly work, providing systematic approaches to inquiry and ensuring that outcomes are both credible and replicable.She underlined that ethical research is what strengthens the credibility of institutions and advances the cause of society at large.
Course Coordinator Prof. (Dr.) Balraj Singh Saini, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Dean College Development Council, Punjabi University, Patiala, urged the participants to focus on interdisciplinary approaches and innovative practices, ensuring that their research aligns with societal needs and global challenges. He further encouraged young scholars to imbibe values of originality and authenticity in their work, which would ultimately enhance the credibility of Indian academia at the global stage
Course Co-Coordinator Dr. Abhinav Bhandari, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Engineering, Punjabi University, Patialaintroduced the participants about the course. Dr.Bhandari introduced the participants about various themes to be covered during the course, encouraged them for active participation. He said that this programme will cover crucial aspects such as Research Design, Data Analysis, Plagiarism Checks, Publication ethics and Emerging Digital Resources for scholars.At the end of inaugural,he proposed vote of thanks.
During the closing remarks, Dr Maini extended heartfelt praise and gratitude to the dedicated staff members Dr. Mandeep Singh, Dyal Dutt, Surinder Singh, Kanta Rani, Mahaveer Singh and Surinder Kumar highlighting their exemplary organizational skills and crucial contributions in the online Short-Term Course.
