UGC-MMTTC, Punjabi University concludes Interdisciplinary on-line Refresher Course on “Research Methodology”

Under the dynamic leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Jagdeep Singh, Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala, the UGC–Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC), Punjabi University, Patiala, successfully concluded its 12-day Refresher Course on Research Methodology.
The course was meticulously designed to equip faculty members with the necessary skills to conduct quality research in a systematic and ethical manner.It focused on imparting knowledge of research design, tools and techniques, data collection, analysis, interpretation, and promoting awareness on ethical issues such as plagiarism, authorship, academic honesty, and research integrity.
During the Valedictory Session of the Refresher Course on “Research Methodology”, it was highlighted that the programme was thoughtfully designed to strengthen participants understanding of contemporary research practices, methodological frameworks, and ethical considerations in a rapidly evolving academic and digital environment. Throughout the course, participants actively engaged with diverse perspectives on research design, qualitative and quantitative methods, data analysis, interdisciplinary approaches, and ethical issues in research.The Refresher Course emphasized the importance of methodological rigor, critical inquiry and ethical responsibility in enhancing the quality, credibility, and social relevance of academic research. Special focus was placed on emerging research trends, innovative methodologies, and the integration of digital tools and resources in scholarly work. The programme also encouraged reflective and evidence-based academic practices, enabling participants to critically examine their research processes and outcomes.
During the valedictory session of the Refresher Course, Prof. (Dr.) Raman Maini, Director, MMTTC, and Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Punjabi University, Patiala, extended a warm and cordial welcome to the Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) Jagdeep Singh, Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala, the Guest of Honour, Prof. (Dr.) Renu Vig, Vice Chancellor,Panjab University, Chandigarh,the Course Coordinator, Dr. Suresh Kumar, Associate Professor, Department Pharmaceutical Sci. & Drug Research, Punjabi University, Patiala the Co-coordinator Dr. Bharti Sapra, Associate Professor, Department Pharmaceutical Sci. & Drug Research, Punjabi University, Patiala and all the participants of the programme.
Delivering the valedictory address, Prof. (Dr.) Raman Maini expressed his deep gratitude to Prof. (Dr.) Jagdeep Singh, Vice Chancellor, stating that his inspiring leadership, academic vision and continuous encouragement have been the driving force behind the sustained growth and diverse academic initiatives of the UGC–Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre. He also thanked the Vice Chancellor for his gracious presence, unwavering support, and guidance in promoting excellence in teacher training and professional development. Dr. Maini further conveyed his sincere appreciation to the Guest of Honour, Prof. (Dr.) Renu Vig, Vice Chancellor,Panjab University, Chandigarh, for his progressive outlook, dynamic vision, and significant contributions to higher education. He acknowledged Prof. (Dr.) Renu Vig commitment to academic excellence and interdisciplinary collaboration, particularly in fostering innovative and learner-centric academic ecosystems.
The Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) Jagdeep Singh, Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala, highlighted that in today’s rapidly evolving knowledge ecosystem, research methodology forms the backbone of meaningful, ethical, and impactful research. Sound research is not merely about data collection, but about asking the right questions, choosing appropriate methods, ensuring ethical practices, and translating findings into societal and academic value. This course has rightly focused on strengthening these essential competencies among faculty members and researchers.

The Guest of Honour, Prof. (Dr.) Renu Vig Vice Chancellor, Punjab University Chandigarh said in the present era of rapidly expanding knowledge, research methodology serves as the foundation of credible, ethical, and impactful research. Prof Renu Vig highlighted the importance of critical literature review, clean and structured data before applying any algorithm to achieve results. Dr Renu highlighted the importance of patents, technology transfer and startups for researchers and students.She said this refresher course has addressed contemporary research tools, ethical considerations, interdisciplinary perspectives, and quality publication practices. Such holistic exposure not only enhances research outcomes but also ensures integrity and responsibility in academic pursuits—values that are indispensable in higher education.
The Course Coordinator, Dr. Suresh Kumar, addressed the gathering and reflected on the successful completion of the programme. He expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, resource persons, and participants for their active engagement and academic commitment throughout the course. In his valedictory address, Dr. Kumar reiterated the crucial role of research methodology in ensuring the quality, credibility, and social relevance of academic research. He emphasised that adherence to research ethics is fundamental to maintaining academic integrity and promoting responsible and impactful scholarship. Dr. Suresh Kumar highlighted that the objectives of the Refresher Course—to strengthen research competencies and methodological rigor—were effectively achieved through meaningful academic deliberations and practical insights. He expressed confidence that the knowledge and skills gained during the programme would significantly contribute to the participants’ future research endeavours.
The Course Co-Coordinator, Dr. Bharti Sapra, also addressed the participants during the valedictory session and shared her reflections on the academic journey of the course. She appreciated the enthusiastic participation and scholarly involvement of the faculty members throughout the programme. Dr. Sapra underscored the importance of research methodology in producing credible and socially relevant research. She noted that ethical awareness and methodological precision are indispensable components of responsible research in contemporary academic environments. Dr. Bharti Sapra further remarked that the Refresher Course was carefully designed to equip faculty members with updated research skills and practical perspectives, and expressed satisfaction that the course successfully met its academic goals. She concluded by wishing the participants success in applying the learnings of the programme in their teaching and research practices.
In his closing remarks, Prof. (Dr.) Raman Maini expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the resource persons, participants, and organising team members for their dedication and commitment. He extended special thanks to the supporting staff members — Dr. Mandeep Singh (Technical Officer), Dyal Dutt, Surinder Singh, Kanta Rani, Mahaveer Singh and Surinder Kumar — for their exemplary organisational efforts that contributed significantly to the smooth conduct of the online programme.
