As part of the ongoing “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign, the Rupnagar Police has intensified its crackdown on drug traffickers and taken a proactive approach towards rehabilitating drug addicts. So far, 118 individuals suffering from drug addiction have been admitted to de-addiction centres.
While inspecting inter-state checkpost under “Operation Seal”, jointly conducted by Punjab and Himachal Pradesh Police, SSP Rupnagar Gulneet Singh Khurana informed that following the order 64-A of the NDPS Act, the Rupnagar Police admitted 83 addicts to government-run Nasha Mukti Kendra over the past three months to help them begin a new life. Additionally, 35 more drug addicts were also admitted for treatment and recovery.
The SSP further said that the “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign has been highly effective in Rupnagar district. Since March 1, a total of 220 FIRs have been registered and 346 drug traffickers arrested under the NDPS Act.
Sharing more details about the campaign, Khurana stated that from the arrested traffickers, the police seized 285 kg poppy husk, 877 grams opium, 566 grams charas, 15,275 intoxicating pills and capsules, 352 injections, 862 grams heroin, 3 kg 228 grams intoxicating powder, 430 grams ganja (cannabis), and Rs 2,56,835 in drug money.
During inspection of the inter-state checkpoint at village Dherowal, Gulneet Singh Khurana stated that anti-social elements and drug traffickers often exploit inter-state borders to smuggle and sell drugs. Therefore, joint inter-state checkpoints have been set up by Punjab and Himachal Pradesh Police to break this supply chain from its root.
The SSP emphasized that with Himachal Police’s support, any suspicious person detained at these checkpoints is immediately verified, making it easier to take prompt action against anti-social elements.
