74 years old Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan died in the hospital today, his son Chirag Paswan, the Lok Janshakti Party chief tweeted in Hindi few minutes ago about the Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan and his father’s death, saying: Papa, you are not in this world today but no matter where you are you will always be with me. Miss you Papa.”

He had undergone a heart surgery days ago at a Delhi hospital. Around three hours ago Chirag congratulated the newly declared candidates of Lok Janshakti Party and asked them to work hard to win the upcoming Bihar assembly elections. He tweeted that” Papa is not well, as soon as he recovers, I’ll join you”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweeted his condolences. “I am saddened beyond words. There is a void in our nation that will perhaps never be filled. Shri Ram Vilas Paswan Ji’s demise is a personal loss. I have lost a friend, valued colleague and someone who was extremely passionate to ensure every poor person leads a life of dignity,” his post read.

Ram Vilas Paswan, an Indian politician from Bihar and the Cabinet Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, is also the president of the Lok Janshakti Party, eight-time Lok Sabha member and current Rajya Sabha MP. He started his political career as member of Samyukta Socialist Party and was elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 1969. Later, Paswan joined Lok Dal upon its formation in 1974, and became its general secretary. He opposed the emergency, and was arrested during the period. He entered the Lok Sabha in 1977, as a Janata Party member from Hajipur constituency, was chosen again 1980, 1989, 1996 and 1998, 1999, 2004, and 2014
