UP elections- another UP-cadre IAS officer gets entry in EC on contract basis

Umesh Sinha has been appointed as the deputy election commissioner in the Election Commission of India, on contractual basis. Sinha, a 1986-batch IAS officer (retired) is at present serving as deputy election commissioner. His six-month contractual term is going to end on June 30,2021.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet cleared the extension in the term of reemployment of Sinha as deputy election commissioner on contract basis for a period of one year. His term will end on June 30, 2022.
Earlier, in this month, Anup Chandra Pandey assumed charge as Election Commissioner (EC) of India on 9th June, 2021. Pandey, an officer of Indian Administrative Service of 1984 batch, Uttar Pradesh cadre superannuated as Chief Secretary, Government of Uttar Pradesh in August 2019.
Now election commission has EC and Dy EC from UP, beside other officers. Assembly elections are schedule in UP, early next year.
Presently, BJP is ruling the state and again wining the state is important for the BJP, as it’s the largest and important state for the ruling party.
UP becomes more important for BJP, as it loses the assembly elections in West Bengal, this year.
Sinha remained a part of a committee set up by the Election Commission to look into the issue of revising the election expenditure of candidates during campaigning.
