Uproar in Punjab Power engineers’ over DC’s action; annoyed technocrats announced protest; residents may suffer

In an ongoing tussle between a deputy commissioner and power engineers’ of the state, an emergency meeting was called by the executive body of the power engineers’ to decide on further course of action.
“During the emergency meeting of the State Executive of the PSEB Engineers’ Association was held today i.e. October 6,2024 6/10/24 at Field Hostel Bathinda to address the issue of non-departmental duties to power engineers and the high-handed actions of the Deputy Commissioner Bathinda. The DC Bathinda has threatened engineers with FIRs and issued show cause notices against them. The executive body unanimously condemned the behavior and actions of the DC, deeming them unacceptable and a threat to ensuring energy security of the region. It was observed that whereas other district administrations have exempted power sector from such duties but DC Bathinda failed to realise the importance of power sector and the emergency nature of the service being rendered by the engineers and technical staff of PSPCL/ PSTCL” said Ajaypal Singh Atwal, general secretary of PSEBEA
“As a mark of protest against the high handedness of DC, the executive has decided that from Monday onwards, all engineers will switch off their official mobile phones daily from 5:00 PM to 9:00 AM. This protest will continue until the withdrawal of such arbitrary duty orders issued by the DC” added Jasvir Singh Dhiman, president, PSEBEA

The house expressed its appreciation for the firm and just stand taken by the Bathinda region engineers and resolved to offer full support in solidarity with them.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to the chair.
Meanwhile, DC Bathinda Showkat Ahmed Parrey couldn’t be contacted for his version.
