The Punjab State Electricity Board Engineers’ Association (PSEBEA) has taken up the issue of excessive disciplinary actions taken against the engineers and non fulfilment of genuine demands with the powercom management.

As per the general secretary of the PSEBEA, Ajaypal Singh Atwal “the Association has been vigorously advocating with the PSPCL management for many years regarding excessive disciplinary actions taken against the engineers. Suspensions and charge sheets issued on routine procedural lapses have created an atmosphere of fear and demoralisation within the cadre. Despite our repeated pleas, the management has ignored our concerns and instead resorted to using these hostile actions as tools to humiliate and intimidate engineers.”

Atwal added that “the management is fully aware of the operational constraints faced by the engineers, but instead of improving working conditions, providing sufficient staff, T&P, implementing modern & functional IT tools, management has deliberately fostered a hostile environment. In this atmosphere, success is measured solely by the whims and fancies of the management, disregarding the actual needs and challenges faced by the engineers. In view of non-existent staff all the responsibility now has been shifted to Sr. Xen level.”

“This kind of hostility from management is leading to demoralisation among engineers, adversely affecting their efficiency and productivity and amplifying a sense of apprehension within the cadre. Such uncalled-for actions have been taken not only against junior officers but also against Heads of Departments on flimsy grounds. A recent example is the unwarranted suspension of Sr.XEN Store Kotkapura, where the concerned officer had no direct responsibility” highlighted by Atwal.

Jasvir Singh Dhiam, PSEBEA president said “in order to fulfil its duty towards improving the state power sector the association submitted suggestions through its letter no. EA-63/75 dated 15/4/21 to the management, but management has deliberately ignored the suggestions sent by the association and also repeatedly failed to fulfil demands of the engineers regarding various genuine issues (EA 563/90 dated 17/6/24).”

Furthermore, the Association insists that the open hostility towards engineers be addressed promptly to boost the morale of the Power Engineers and to safeguard the state’s power sector from the detrimental environment created by management. It is important to note that the Faridkot Region has already initiated protests against this unjust action by the management. If the suspension is not revoked, the Association will be compelled to intensify the agitation and the responsibility for any subsequent disruptions will lie squarely with the management” said Dhiman.
