US President Donald Trump impeached; he abused the power of his office

In a landmark historic decision, the House of Representatives formally impeached President Donald J. Trump on Wednesday evening.”US President Donald Trump impeached; he abused the power of his office”.

Earlier US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi instructed the House Judiciary Committee to draft articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump for pressuring Ukraine to investigate a political rival.

He has become the third US president in its history to be impeached by the House of Representatives, setting up a trial in the Senate that will decide whether he remains in office.

He is accused of the charges that he abused the power of his office for domestic political advantage and subsequently obstructed Congress’ abilities to hold him accountable.

Impeachment is the process by which a legislative body levels charges against a government official. Impeachment does not in itself remove the official definitively from office; it is similar to an indictment in criminal law, and thus it is essentially the statement of charges against the official.

Who takes over after impeachment?
The 25th Amendment, Section 1, clarifies Article II, Section 1, Clause 6, by stating unequivocally that the vice president is the direct successor of the president, and becomes president if the incumbent dies, resigns or is removed from office.
