US’s University of Wisconsin Chancellor graces the annual convocation at Khalsa College

Annual Convocation of Khalsa College Patiala was held on Friday, 18th October, 2019 and 725 students were awarded degrees. The chief guest of the convocation was Chancellor, Dr. Deborah L. Ford, University of Wisconsin, Parkside, U.S.A. Dr. Abey Kuruvilla, Executive Director, International Affairs, University of Wisconsin, Parkside, U.S.A. was present as the Guest of Honour. B.S. Ratan, Ex. Income Tax Commissioner, Patiala and havinder Singh Sabharwal, Ex Member S.G.P.C., Sri Amritsar were also present during the occasion.

The convocation began with a majestic academic procession followed by the playing of college dhuni. Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha, College Principal, read the annual report and highlighted the fact that Khalsa College Patiala is the first college in Northern region of India that has started Ph.D. course in various streams. He thanked for the tremendous support given by Gobind Singh Longowal, President, S.G.P.C., Sri Amritsar Sahib. Dr. Ubha elaborated upon various achievements of the college at National and International levels. Dr. Deborah L. Ford, Dr. Abey Kuruvilla, Surjit Singh Rakhra, College Principal Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha and Controller Examination Dr. Ravinderjit Singh presented degrees to the students.

The students and the audience were enthralled by the speech of the chief guest, Dr. Deborah L.Ford. Dr. Ford is a strong believer in building partnerships and she has been actively connected with many organisations. She received Change Recognition Program Award in 2014 by the Network for Change and Continuous Innovation (NCCI). In 2015, the Milwaukee Business Journal honoured her with Women of Influence Award. Dr. Ford said in her speech that the world is demanding more talent and Khalsa College Patiala is meeting these demands. She also said that she feels proud of the MOU between University of Wisconsin and Khalsa College Patiala. She added that as a Chancellor she believes in partnerships with other institutions around the world because global partnerships can build new relationships in meaningful ways. Dr. Ford also spoke on the importance of building confidence among students and role of a leader to inspire others.

The annual convocation was a success under the able guidance of coordinator of convocation committee, Dr. Jasleen Kaur. Mementoes were presented to Dr. Deborah L. Ford and Dr. Abey Kuruvilla. The dances Malwai Gidha and Gidha were performed to entertain the audience. The Convocation ended with a vote of thanks by Surjit Singh Rakhra.
