UT protesting Powermen get a shot in the arm as Council of junior engineers PSEB refused to perform duties under ED,UT

Today, the Council of Junior Engineers PSEB has shot off a letter to the CMD of Punjab state power corporation limited (PSPCL) and Punjab state transmission corporation limited (PSTCL) expressing their decision to not perform their duties at the disposal of Engineering Dept, UT Chandigarh. The council has extended support to the ongoing agitation of Powermen of UT Power against the privatization of Power Sector of UT Chandigarh.
Electricity wing of the Engineering Department, Chandigarh UT has planned to stage dharna and demonstration on 06.12.24 onwards with boycott of work.
Paramjit Singh Khattra , president Council of Junior Engineers PSEB said “ Union Govt. has unilaterally decided to privatize the profit making Power Sector of UT Chandigarh without consulting various stake holders and Engineers and Employees Unions. Our council has extended the support to our brethren, UT Power sector engineers’ genuine protest.”
Davinder Singh, general secretary of the Council of Junior Engineers PSEB said “in view of December 6,2024 onwards protest program of UT Power Sector Engineers and Employees, PSPCL Management is putting its Power Junior Engineers and technical staff on the disposal of Chief Engineer, UT, Chandigarh. Council of Junior Engineers, PSEB extends its full support to the ongoing agitation of Powermen of UT Power sector and opposes the step towards privatization of power sector. It has been unanimously decided that members of Council of Junior Engineers will not perform their duties at the disposal of Engineering Dept, UT Chandigarh.”

In a significant move towards the privatisation of power services in Chandigarh, the UT electricity department had issued the Letter of Intent (LoI) to a Kolkata-based company, advancing a long-standing and contentious process.
