Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University Prof. BS Ghuman took initiative, to improve the tilting fiscal condition of Punjabi university along with MS Nijjar, Registrar, GS Batra, Dean-Academic Affairs and Kulbir Singh Dhillon, Dean, College Development Council, who deposited cheques of Rs one lakh each and agreeing to auto-debit Rs 5,000 per month from their bank accounts, on first day of the year.
The major contributions came from the Gurnam Singh, head of the department, Gurmat Sangeet and Amritpal Kaur, additional dean, students’ welfare (girls), also followed the suit by offering to deduct Rs 2,000 per month from their salaries.
Dalip Singh Uppal, former finance officer and Kamlesh Uppal, a former Professor and HoD of theatre and television have already donated Rs one lakh and 1.25 lakh, respectively.
Gurmeet Maan, Director EMRC, also promised to deduct 10 per cent from his retirement benefits, besides donations of Rs 1,500 per month. LK Patel and Kamaljit Jaggi also donated Rs 500 each.
VC said many alumni who were NRI’s, educationist, professionals, industrialist, bureaucrats of the university in addition to many teachers and employees, have also committed to donate money to the university in this regard.
He appealed to all concerned, especially managements of private colleges to donate liberally for the noble cause. “The funds raised will be open for social audit to keep the whole mechanism fair and transparent”, he said.
Vice Chancellor BS Ghuman personally went to the offices of the newly appointed Dean, Academic Affairs, Batra, Jaspal Kaur, dean, research, and professor Tara Singh, dean, students’ welfare, for empowering them to take up their respective chairs.
He also visited all the sections of the administrative to personally wishing New Year to all the members of the supporting staff.
