Vice Chairman appointment-Punjab Govt to adjust three industrialists; raises eyebrows

On July 11,2022 Punjab government has issue an appointment orders of Sunil Gupta as Vice-Chairman of the State Economic Policy and Planning Board, Punjab. After the formation of the present state government, the Planning Board was dissolved and replaced with the State Economic Policy and Planning Board.
Along with Sunil Gupta the state has also appointed Rajinder Gupta, Chairman of Trident Group, as Vice-Chairman of the State Economic Policy and Planning Board, Punjab, with immediate effect for tenure of three years.

As per tradition, vice chairman gets a cabinet rank and its facilities. If they add two more members as vice president in the present scenario, then the govt has to give cabinet rank to three persons.
The state govt has again appointed Padma Shri awardee Rajinder Gupta as the Vice-Chairman of the State Economic Policy and Planning Board, Punjab. Gupta has previously also served as the Vice Chairman of the Planning Board in Congress government during and after the SAD-BJP government.
As per unconfirmed news, state govt is planning to accommodate more industrialist, renowned persons in the State Economic Policy and Planning Board, Punjab which is headed by the chief minister as its Chairman. The govt may appoint more than one vice-chairman’s .
Gupta was awarded with the “Padma Shri” award in 2007, one of the highest civilian awards bestowed by the Government of India, for his exemplary work in the field of trade and industry. He also holds several strategic positions including Chairman of Advisory Council of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) for the states of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Himachal Pradesh, Chairman of Board of Governors, Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh and serves as an active member on Cleveland Clinic International Leadership Board.
