Vigilance registers bribery case against three cops, nabs two for taking bribe

Punjab Vigilance Bureau today nabbed one Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and one senior constable red handed while accepting bribe of Rs. 10,000.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau said Krishan Kumar, ASI (No. 1005/Mohali) and senior constable Ajay Gill (No. 982/Mohali), both posted at police post Phase-8, Mohali, were arrested by vigilance team for accepting bribe of Rs. 10,000 from complainant Karan Singh of village Nahalan, Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh but residing at Mohali.
He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that above said cops were demanding Rs. 25,000 bribe for returning back his laptop, printer and other valuable items which they took away from his Siaram Loan firm at industry area phase 8, Mohali. The complaint stated that when he reached the police post, Ajay Gill said “If you want your items to be released you will have to give a bribe of Rs. 20,000. At that time, he bribed them Rs. 8,000 which he borrowed from his friend.
Consequently, after a few days senior constable Ajay Gill along with other personnel again came to his office and threatened him to give remaining amount of bribe. He produced him before Krishan Kumar, ASI and another ASI at the police post to pay the bribe.
Both the ASIs threatened to register a fraud case against him and asked him to give a bribe of Rs. 25,000. Due to this, he bribed them Rs. 15,000 on the spot.
After verifying his information, a VB team laid a trap and the accused ASI Krishan Kumar was arrested on the spot while accepting the rest of the bribe of Rs. 10,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
He informed that a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused Krishan Kumar, Ajay Gill and an un-named ASI at VB flying squad police station Mohali and further investigation was under progress.
