With the Punjab Government granting the status of a Holy City to the Guru’s sacred town Sri Anandpur Sahib, a long-pending demand of the local residents and institutions has been fulfilled. The Sri Anandpur Sahib Assembly constituency had remained consistently deprived of development for the past seven decades. However, in 2022, when the Aam Aadmi Party government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann took charge of the state, the area’s MLA and Punjab Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains began earnest efforts to fulfill the promises made to the people. By turning these promises into reality, he has continuously transformed the outlook of the region. If one reviews some of the selective development works carried out since 2022, it is evident that the condition of the constituency is improving day by day.

The Sri Anandpur Sahib Assembly constituency, a symbol of Punjab’s religious, historical, and cultural heritage, has entered a new era of development after 2022. Under the leadership of Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains, the Punjab Government is undertaking unprecedented and historic development works in the constituency. These initiatives in the fields of education, infrastructure, drinking water, agriculture, and tourism are not limited to mere construction but are a major step toward improving the quality of life of the people.

Historic transformation in the education sector

In the Sri Anandpur Sahib constituency, education has been accorded the highest priority by the government. Government schools are being equipped with modern facilities at a cost of crores of rupees so that every child can receive quality education.

At the School of Eminence, Sri Kiratpur Sahib, large-scale renovation is underway at a cost of approximately Rs. 10 crore. A modern 3- and 4-storey building is being constructed, along with lift facilities for students, digital classrooms, a modern library, A-class laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, and a grand auditorium hall. Additionally, an international-standard football turf ground is also being developed at a cost of Rs. 1 crore.

In the Changer area village of Lakher, the state’s first School of Happiness is being constructed at a cost of Rs. 2.5 crore, which will prove to be a boon for dozens of surrounding villages. The objective of this school is not limited to academic education but also to strengthen children’s psychological development, moral values, and life skills.

Similarly, another School of Happiness is being developed in village Gambhirpur at a cost of Rs. 6 crore. In Nangal city, the School of Eminence (Boys) is being renovated at a cost of Rs. 7 crore, and a modern swimming pool is being constructed at a cost of Rs. 4 crore. Strengthening infrastructure

The government has made historic investments to strengthen infrastructure in the constituency. Three major bridges over the Sutlej and Swan rivers are being constructed at a cost of approximately Rs. 100 crore, a demand that had been pending for decades. These bridges will not only ease transportation but will also boost industrial and commercial activities.

In addition, roads are being renovated at a cost of Rs. 150 crore, while village link roads are being improved at a cost of Rs. 50 crore. Through lift irrigation projects, agricultural irrigation and drinking water supply are being strengthened. In Nangal city, a water treatment plant will be installed at a cost of Rs. 16 crore. Meanwhile, the Changer area will receive canal water for the first time since Independence, strengthening the economic condition of farmers.

Tourism, heritage, and the identity of a Holy City

Large-scale work is being carried out to promote tourism and heritage development in Sri Anandpur Sahib, the birthplace of the Khalsa. A Heritage Street will be developed at a cost of Rs. 25 crore, while the Bhai Jaita Ji Memorial Museum, a nature park, and the Panj Pyara Park have already been dedicated to the public. New museums will be developed at Virasat-e-Khalsa, and all markets will be beautified.

The government’s official declaration of Sri Anandpur Sahib as a Holy City further strengthens its religious and cultural identity. These initiatives will increase the number of tourists and pilgrims and create new employment opportunities for local residents.

Under the leadership of Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains, the Sri Anandpur Sahib Assembly constituency has today become a model of development. These historic works in education, infrastructure, and tourism will make the constituency prosperous, self-reliant, and developed for decades to come.

On the occasion of the 350th martyrdom centenary celebrations, the local sangat played an enthusiastic role. The Punjab Government organized a Vidhan Sabha session, interfaith conference, heritage tours, and several other religious events, in which devotees participated wholeheartedly. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, along with several cabinet ministers and MLAs, attended these events. On this occasion, Bains stated that one should always come forward wholeheartedly for the welfare of humanity. He added that the pace of development will further accelerate from 2026 onwards, and the promises made by Harjot Singh Bains are steadily being fulfilled.
