Whooping 1 CR power theft penalty fills PSPCL’s coffer- Er Saini

Punjab State Power Corporation Limited  is gaining momentum in their   campaign against the menace of  theft of electricity in the state and achieving  grand success in this direction. Distribution  South zone of PSPCL has conducted mass raids on early morning on August 24,2020 for checking of electricity connections under zero tolerance policy to curb theft of electricity of PSPCL CMD A.Venu Prasad and director distribution Er.DPS Grewal.

PSPCL chief engineer  south zone Er.R.S.Saini disclosed that 125 teams of south zone of distribution have checked the premises of 4150 consumers and imposed a penalty of rupees 1.01 crores to 302 nos of consumers on account of  theft of electricity , 108 consumers charged for unauthorized extension and 6 consumers found for UE.

Er.Saini said that during raids in Patiala circle 32 teams have checked the premises of 1628 consumers, in which  132 nos consumers charged  fine  for rupees 26.53 lacs .

He said that 22 distribution teams in Barnala  circle have checked the electricity connections of 700 consumers and imposed  a fine of 24.85 lacs,52 consumers found for theft of power and 10 nos consumers fines for UUE.

                

Similarly 28  distribution  teams of  Sangrur circle have raided on the electricity connections  of 672 consumers imposed   fine  of rupees 21.55 LACS in which 79 consumers found indulging in  theft  and 54 nos consumers fined  for UUE.

He further said that   in Ropar circle 17 distribution teams have checked the premises of 600 consumers and found 9 consumers for theft of electricity and 35 for UUE  and imposed a fine of Rupees 6.35 lacs.

Er.Saini also added that in distribution circle Mohali 26 teams have raided the premises of 550 consumers  and imposed a fine of rupees 21.91 lacs to 45 consumers , in which 30 consumers found for theft , 9 charged for UUE and 6 charged for UE.

Er.R.S.Saini has  also appealed  the consumers to deposit their electricity bills well in time to avoid the disconnection in case of default in making payment of electricity bills.

He said  that  campaign against theft of power  shall be continued in future also and consumers are requested not to indulge in theft of energy as this leads to heavy fines, police action and more over harassment to  consumers.
