For the whole five years, every party, politicians keep stressing on women empowerment, equal rights for women, equality in working etc etc But when the time for ticket allotment comes, they throw these ideas in dustbins and keep fighting for tickets for themselves. Women candidates work for whole life and only very few of them get chance to enter into decision making politics, where they can show their power, killing instinct to change, bring reforms in the society.

Punjab has a total population of around 2.77 crore -1.46 crore males and 1.31 crore females. The eligible voters are 2.12 crores- 115.81 lacs males and 96.19 lacs females, means 895 women per 1000 males. Punjab has 117 assembly constituencies.

Every party has offered freebies, promises to females, if they came to power but fail to field them in the polls as their party candidates.

In the upcoming Punjab assembly elections, till date aam admi party (AAP) has given 12 seats to women candidates out of 117 assembly seats. Likewise Congress has given 11 seats out of total 109 seats declared so far. Bhartiya janta party (BJP)- Punjab Lok Congress (PL)- Shiromani akali dal (SAD-Dhindsa) has given 8 seats out of the total 106 seats announced so far. Shiromani akali dal and Bahujan samaj party alliance has given 5 seats to women candidates out of total 117 candidates announced.

Shiromani akali dal has promised that if their party came to power in the upcoming Punjab polls, then they would provide free education to poor children and under Mata Khivi Yojana all women will be given Rs 2000 monthly, as well as 800 units of free electricity.

Aam admi party has promised “when the AAP Government is formed in the state women above 18 years will get Rs 1,000 per month including daughter, daughter-in-law, mother-in-law or grandmother; they will all get one thousand rupees each”

Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu had promised ₹2,000 per month for women homemakers if his party is voted to power.
