Women Studies Centre organized self defence workshop for university hostel girls-Ritu Lehal

Today on the occasion of world Taekwondo Day on Women Studies Centre Punjabi University, Patiala in collaboration with department of Physical Education conducted a workshop to impart training in self defence to the girls of university hostel.  Dr. Arvind, Vice-chancellor of the university inaugurated the workshop. In his address he stated that self-defence techniques improve the morale of the girls and free them from any fear by improving their confidence. He congratulated the team of Women Studies Centre for organizing this workshop. The girls needs to brace up and fight her own battles and safeguard herself. With a view to empower girls and make them self-dependent, this workshop has been organised. We have more such workshops in pipeline, especially to empower girls and make them self-sufficient in defending themselves.

Dr. Ritu lehal, Directoer Women Studies Centre remarked that the present scenario of crime against women requires that every girl should equip herself with the techniques of self-defence to protect herself. Today, every girl needs to brace up and fight her own battles and safeguard herself. The present scenario of crimes against women necessitates that every girl should equip herself with the techniques of self-defence to protect herself. No longer is she expected to be a damsel in distress, waiting for someone to protect her.

Coach Satwinder Singh, who has trained around 50,000 students in Patiala also highlighted the need of learning Taekwondo techniques of self-defence for girls in the present contemporary scenario. He has also undertaken the challenge to train deaf and dumb girls in Taekwondo.

50 girls were participated in this workshop. On this occasion various faculty members from different departments were present.
