The Department of Human Genetics, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, in collaboration with Make Intern (E-cell of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad), successfully hosted a three-day workshop titled “Artificial Intelligence in Life Sciences” from 6th to 8th June 2025.

The event was conducted at the Department of Computer Science Engineering (CSE) and saw participation from students and research scholars of both the Department of Human Genetics and the Department of Zoology.

The workshop featured hands-on training in machine learning and AI tools, with a focus on enhancing data interpretation and analysis within the field of life sciences. Participants engaged in daily exercises covering topics such as machine learning applications, AI prompt engineering, and an in-depth exploration of AI in computer-aided drug design. The interactive sessions encouraged teamwork through collaborative tasks and group-based activities.

In addition to the on-site training, participants benefitted from free access to online courses on various bioinformatics tools and techniques via the Skill Upgrad platform, further bettering the experience.

The workshop culminated with a quiz comprising 25 questions, the top five scorers were selected to represent the university at a zonal championship organized by IIT Hyderabad. The workshop proved to be a highly enriching, equipping students with practical skills and robust knowledge, both of AI and life sciences.
