Workshop on Herbal Drugs: Issues & Challenges inaugurated at GNDU

A ‘One Week Workshop Herbal Drugs: Issues & Challenges’ was inaugurated at the new FDC (HRDC) building under the aegis of the Faculty Development Centre (FDC), which has been allocated to the University under the Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teachers and Training (PMMMNMTT) Scheme by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India, New Delhi. Nearly 40 participants comprising teachers and research faculty from various institutes from across the country are participating in it.
Prof. R.K. Goyal, an internationally acclaimed Pharmaceutical Scientist and Vice-Chancellor, Delhi Pharmaceutical & Research University, Delhi presided over the inaugural session. Prof. Goyal in his presidential remarks traced the history of Pharmaceutical Scientists since ancient times and apprised the participants how systematically the science of pharmacy has reached its present phase during these millennia. Paying tributes to Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, one of the great visionaries, eminent educationist of India, he equipped that he was the one, who introduced the subject of Pharmacy as a separate discipline in the University system. In fact all the branches of Pharmacy, the medicine, the surgery, the diagnostics etc. have advanced over the centuries. Labelling the compartmentalization of any discipline as ludicrous he emphasized on the increasing significance of the interdisciplinary approach in the academics.
Prof. Preet Mohinder Singh Bedi, Head, Deptt. of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Director, University-Industry Linkage Programme and the Coordinator of the Workshop enumerated the achievements of the University as well as if his Department since its establishment. Of late, the University has also venturing into collaborations with a number of leading Universities/Institutes of the world in various disciplines, he added. Dr. Balbir Singh, Deputy Coordinator briefed the participants with the curricula of the Workshop. Much care has been taken to incorporate the practical components as well in addition to the theoretical aspect,, he added. Prof. Adarsh Pal Vig, Project Coordinator of the FDC shared with the participants, aims and objectives of the Centre, which has been allocated to our Centre by the MHRD, Govt. of India. These aims can be achieved only with the whole-hearted cooperation of the participants, he stressed.
Earlier, Prof. R.K. Goyal was the Chief Guest was presented a sapling by Prof. Adarsh Pal Vig, Prof. Preet Mohinder Singh Bedi, Dr. Mohan Kumar and Dr. Balbir Singh. In the end, the vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Sarabjeet Kaur, Deptt. of Pharmaceutical Sciences, GNDU, Amritsar.
