Workshop on instructional strategies for outcome based language teaching held at GNDU

A two weeks workshop on instructional Strategies for Outcome Based Language Teaching under Centre of learning and pedagogic studies, School of Education , Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT) Scheme , MHRD is being organized at Department of Education , Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar with a view to keep the language teachers abreast with the latest instructional strategies for teaching languages in the present changing scenario.
Prof. H.S. Bedi, Chancellor, Central University of Himachal Pradesh while delivering the inaugural address stressed the importance of language in the society and also focused how the language teachers should give importance to mother tongue. He also discussed as the world becomes more and more globalised, the demand for multilingual language speakers has increased. Prof. Bedi highlighted that multilinguals are open minded and accepting of change and above all attractive to any potential employer.
Prof. H.S. Bedi, while addressing the participants shared that language is not merely the medium of instruction at all levels of Education, it is the medium of growth. It provides capacity for preservation and communication for intellectual life. At higher level, language provides the medium of fresh and free thinking and research.
Prof. Amit Kauts, Project Coordinator, School of Education while welcoming the guests and participants shared that for effective language teaching, language teachers should focus on outcome based instructional strategies for achieving language proficiency among the learners. He also emphasized that language is a potent means of expression and a form of communication, which involves two elements- the ideas or experiences which we want to communicate and the words that we use to convey these ideas or experiences. He apprised the participants about the purpose of organizing this workshop that is to develop competency among language teachers to frame learning outcomes and align their instructional strategies accordingly.
Dr. Deepa Sikand Kauts, Organizing Secretary, oriented the teachers/teacher educators towards the new trend adopted in language teaching i.e Hindi, Punjabi, and English and how this workshop will provide hands on training to the teachers in the development of modules for strengthening the language teaching learning process. She shared that this workshop is an Endeavour to make the school teachers and teacher educators come on a common platform to work in collaboration for effective transaction of the curriculum. Dr. Deepa stressed that we need language to learn, to retain and to recall our knowledge. It is the primary need of the human beings. She thanked the chief guest and 23 participants from various Universities, colleges and schools from all over India.
