World University Biotech student awarded 17 lacs per year fellowship in Canada

Department of Biotechnology at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University added yet another feather to its cap when one of its students Gurpreet Kaur of M. Tech Biotechnology got selected for doctoral studies with full fellowship of rupees 17 lac per annum at York University, Canada. Dr. C. Rajesh, HOD, while informing said that Gurpreet Kaur selected for this fellowship on the basis of her research experience in the field of Molecular biology, Microbiology, Genetic Engineering, cell tissue culture etc. gained in the world-class laboratories of Sri Guru Granth World University. He said that the selection has been done via skype interview with the scientists regarding the Research projects done by her during M.Tech. at the University. He further added that she will be working on research project entitled “Effect of Geothermal heating on bioremediation and ground-water flow” under the supervision of Dr. Magdalena Krol and Dr. Satinder Kaur Brar, Department of Civil Engineering, Lassonde School of Engineering,

Dr. Prit Pal Singh, Vice-chancellor, congratulated the students and the hard working faculty members of the Department. He said it is matter of great pride for the University that in short span of time several students have been selected with full scholarship for research in the universities abroad that includes Kent state University, Sr. Johs Uni, University of Arkansas in USA, INRS Canada, as well as in the premier Research Institutes of India and that of European countries. Moreover, several alumni from the University have been placed in esteemed companies that includes Dr  Reddy, Paraxal and others located at Canada, Australia, and USA. Dr. Puspender Sharma, Assistant Professor from the department further informed that another student Jasleen Kaur has got selected as JRF at CMC Ludhiana after completing her Bachelor in Biotechnology, and furthermore, six students from the Medical lab technology are currently undergoing training at Fortis Hospital, Mohali. He added that this University department is offering B.Sc. (Hons.) Biotechnology, M.Sc. Biotechnology and Ph.D. along with the courses in B.Sc. (M.L.T.) and M.Sc. (M.L.T.).
