World University Celebrated National Sports Day

Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib’s Department of Physical Education and Sports Technology, organized an Inter-department Football and Basketball Tournament on 28th and 29th August, 2019 on the occasion of National Sports Day. This event was dedicated to 550th Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The program was organised under “Fit India Movement”. The Chief Guest of the inauguration ceremony was Dr. Prit Pal Singh, Vice-Chancellor along with special guests of honour Dr. R.K Sharma, Dean Research, Dr. S. S Billing, Head, Department of Mathematics, Dr. Tejbir Singh, Head, Department of Physics and Professor In-charge examination, Dr. Sarpreet Singh, Dean Students Welfare, Dr. C Rajesh, Head, Department of Biotechnology, Dr. BirBikram Singh, Public Relation Officer. After the inauguration ceremony the officials present during the occasion, under the guidance of the worthy Vice Chancellor, planted samplings around the sports stadium dedicated to 550th Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The students showcased their scintillating talent during Gatka performances. During the event more than 200 students participated in the games from different departments of the University and different schools of Fatehgarh Sahib. The department organised fun games also such as skipping, lemon race, tug of war, etc., in which students participated enthusiastically.
Baba Joravar Singh Fateh Singh Senior Secondary School was winner of Inter-school football championship with 1-0 points. Department of Physical Education won the inter-department football competition with 2-0 points. During the final of inter-department basketball competition Department of Physics gave tough competition to Department of Physical Education but had to contend as runner up. Dr. Prit Pal Singh honoured the players during prize-distribution ceremony. While addressing the students, he said that to live a healthier and smarter life youth should take interest in sports. Dr. Bhupinder Singh Ghuman, Head, Department of Physical Education encouraged and congratulated the students and staff of his department for successfully organising the event. He gave information about the National Sports Day to the players and thanked the chief guest and other dignitaries for joining the event.
