World University organised a special programme on Butterflies of Punjab

The Department of English of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University is celebrating the Big Butterfly Month 2020 by adding a SGGSWU Chapter to the nationwide celebrations of the same. The Department today organised an expert talk on “Butterflies of Punjab” to mark the initiation of these celebrations. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Prit Pal Singh, Vice Chancellor of the University. Dr. Singh congratulated the Department for this initiative. He said that such topics are very beneficial for the students and it is hoped that in the University will organize such talks on other new topics in future as well. Dr.Swaraj Raj, Former Head of the Department was the guest speaker on this occasion. Dr. Swaraj spoke about the varied species of butterflies, their growth phases, the environment and the plants they survive on. He expressed his concern over the rapid climate changes causing the extinction of many species of butterflies. He also told the speakers about the various plants that they can grow in their homes to attract butterflies so as to enjoy their company.

She expressed her gratitude to Dr. Swaraj Raj for accepting the invitation. Dr. Attwal informed that the event has received response from other states too. There were participants from Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal and Assam. She further added that online competitions of Photography, Painting, Slogan Writing and Poetry writing with a focus on butterflies, are being organised by the Department. The interested candidates may send their entries and queries at [email protected]. The entries are invited till 15 September and the results will be announced on 20 September 2020. Baljeet Kaur Anand, Assistant Professor, Department of English presented the vote of thanks. Amandeep Kaur, Assistant Professor, Department of English moderated the event.
