World University-UGC organised a webinar on “Gender Bias and Stereotyping”

The Department of English, Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib in collaboration with the University Grants Commissions (UGC), New Delhi organised a national webinar on” Gender Bias and Stereotyping”. The eminent speaker for the webinar was Dr. Swaraj Raj, Former Professor and Head, Department of English, SGGSWU.
Dr. S.S. Billing, Dean, Academic Affairs and Dean Languages welcomed the key speaker, the faculty, research scholars and students to the webinar. Dr. Billing emphasised the contemporary significance of the topic and congratulated the Department for having organised a talk on it.
Dr. Swaraj Raj talked about the manner in which gender bias and stereotyping affects our everyday life and how gendered roles lead to unequal division of work. He highlighted the manner in which media and advertising strengthen conventional gender roles and biases. He gave concrete examples to prove how sexism operates in multiple ways and is a hindrance in equality of sexes.
Dr. Ankdeep Kaur Attwal, Head, Department of English presented the formal vote of thanks. She told that more than hundred participants from various cities, fields, Universities and Colleges attended the webinar as the topic of the webinar is relevant for everyone and is not limited to the field of language and literature only.
