Government Arts and Sports College, Jalandhar, hosted the 79th day of Yogotsav on Thursday (3rd April 2025). The event, “Countdown 100 to International Day of Yoga”, was held with the support of Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, under the aegis of Ministry of Ayush, Government of India. Government Arts & Sports College, Jalandhar, had been selected as one of the 100 organizations to organize a Yoga program as part of the 100-day countdown to IDY 2025.

The event was chaired by Dr Ranbir Singh (Principal) and Convener and Co- convener was Dr Charu Sharma (Assistant Professor, Yoga, Government Arts & Sports College, Jalandhar) & Dr Amandeep Kaur (Librarian and Busar, Government Arts &Sports College) respectively.

As a part of this program, Yoga department of Sports College organised a community Yoga session & Yoga discourse on the theme- ‘Yoga for One Earth One Health’ on 3rd April 2025. The event started at 6 am with the chanting of mantras followed by Sukshma Vyayam, Asanas, Pranayama and meditation.The morning session was led by Dr. Charu Sharma and Dr. Nidhish Kumar Yadav, along with students Veer, Suman, and Param.

The event was graced by several special guests, including Gurpreet Singh (District Sports Officer), Sukhwinder Singh (Registrar cum Warden, Maritaurious School), Ajay Bahri (Principal, Government Sports School) and Dr. Ruchi Singh Gaur (CEO Unity Critical Care & Multi Speciality Hospital & Founder, Amrit Caregiver NGO).  Several yoga coaches, their trainees (future sports players), sports school students, and 35 NCC students also participated, highlighting the connection between sports and yoga.

The yoga event was followed by an academic seminar in which Dr. Nidheesh Kumar Yadav, Associate Professor and Head of the Department, Yogananda School of Spirituality and Happiness, Shoolini University, delivered the keynote address on the topic, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”. Lt (Dr) Ahmed Hussain, Associate NCC Officer (ANO), DAV University, Jalandhar and Vikas Mahajan, founder of Vivacious Yoga Centre in Jalandhar, also addressed the audience on the benefits of yoga.

Dr Ranbir Singh, Principal, Government Arts and Sports College, Jalandhar, welcomed the guests. The guests were honored with tokens of gratitude by the college. The entire college staff worked diligently behind the scenes to ensure the grand success of this mega event in Jalandhar.
