Power units of 870 MWs shut down in Punjab during peak season

One unit of 660 MW of Talwand Sabo Power plant (TSPL) and one unit of govt owned 210 MW of GGSSTP, Ropar has shut down due to technical glitches.

Within around 36 hours of restoration of one unit, another unit of TSPL has shut down. Earlier its one unit of 660 MW was found having some boiler related issues and remained out of order for around 3-4 days restored around at 7:00pm on June 21,2024.

Now, two units’ of Punjab’s largest power plant Talwand Sabo Power plant (TSPL) at Mansa are working.

When contacted the officials of TSPL they said “ the unit has some technical glitch and will be operational by June 25,2024 morning.”

On the other hand out of four units of Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal Plant (GGSSTP), Ropar one unit of 210 unit is out of order. When contacted the chief engineer of the plant, he said “ the boiler tube leakage was found that’s why the unit is shut down. Now it will start functioning by June 25 as it takes 28-30 hours to cool down. After that our engineers will fix the issue.”

At present the power demand in Punjab is around 15000 MW and Punjab is generating around 5300 MW from all sources.
