12 Students of World University Begin Research Attachment Program with PGIMER- CIBIOD

Twelve students from various departments of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib has started  a 6-month Research Attachment program by ICMR-Center for Innovation and Biodesign (CIBIOD), PGIMER, Chandigarh .

The program was initiated by a virtual session on “Innovation in Medtech” by Dr. Nirmaljeet Singh Kalsi, Former Additional Secretary, Govt. of Punjab. The attachment program to be carried out at ICMR- CIBIOD, PGIMER, Chandigarh provides a golden opportunity for the young and bright Science/ Engineering/Medicine students, who want to learn and get involved with cutting edge health related technologies.

They would during the program learn about Innovation, Incubation, Prototyping and commercialisation of novel ideas and usage of knowledge of technology and social science in medical profession. The program aims at developing patentable technology and innovation to make healthcare affordable to the general public. During this program students will work on the live projects in groups comprising of Faculty, Research Scholars, Entrepreneurs and experts from Industry. Dr. Varinder Garg, MD Radiology, PGIMER and OSD to Union Health Minister who leads the program on behalf of CIBIOD said “The program will inculcate the art of innovation and entrepreneurship among students. It will not only lead to innovation, publication and patents but also make them understand the applied aspects of various sciences”.

The Chairperson of Center for Scientific Research and Innovation (CSRI)-SGGSWU, Prof. C. Rajesh will lead the core team of faculty from SGGSWU along with Dr. Harsimran Kaur, Department of Biotechnology, Dr. Amandeep Kaur, Department of Computer Science and Dr. Monika Airi, Department of Zoology. The students, Four of B.Tech/BSc Biotechnology, Three of BSc Medical Lab Technology, Two of B/M. Tech Computer Science, One each of MSc Botany, MSc Zoology and Bachelor of Physiotherapy will participate in program as specific groups to develop innovative/affordable technology in the next six months.

Prof Rajesh said “The CSRI-SGGSWU will continue to work towards providing support to students of the University along with additional infrastructural help in further development and promotion of commercial product development using similar additional tie-up with medical, public and private partnerships. The Vice chancellor of the University Prof. (Dr.) Prit Pal Singh congratulated the students selected for the program and wished them all the best for their success in the program and promised all the help and support to them and CSRI-SGGSWU in developing innovative research centers within the campus.
