Harjot Singh Bains, Cabinet Minister for Education and Information & Public Relations, has been visiting flood-affected villages Bela Dhyani Lower, Bandlehri, Raipur Lower, and Johal since morning. He said that people from Bela Dhyani Lower are being evacuated and shifted to safe relief camps where arrangements for accommodation, food, and medical facilities have been made.
On this occasion, Rupnagar Deputy Commissioner Varjeet Walia, SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana, along with officials and staff of the administration and police, were engaged in relief and rescue operations.
The minister informed that the rescue centers are fully operational and teams are deployed round the clock to ensure the safety of the people. Villages located in low-lying areas or houses in the fields face the risk of waterlogging. Therefore, an appeal has been made to the people to vacate their houses and move to rescue centers.
He said that many families have already reached the rescue centers after the appeal. The administration, Deputy Commissioner, and SSP are themselves present on the spot, and the rescue operation is ongoing.
Bains stated that contact has been established with Roshan Veer’s family and some other people; they are safe and are being evacuated by the rescue team. He added that the entire rescue operation will be completed within the next few hours. Proper arrangements for food, drinking water, and medicines have been made in the relief camps for the evacuated residents.
The administration has appealed that no threat should be ignored. People’s safety is the top priority and the issued guidelines must be followed.
He further informed that 18 members from Lower Bela Dhyani have been shifted to relief camps by boat, while 48 residents evacuated themselves by tractor-trolleys from Harsabela and Sansowal.
In Nangal sub-division, four relief camps have been set up where people from different villages have been accommodated safely. A total of 137 people are currently staying in Government Senior Secondary School Bhalan, Government Middle School Bhanam, Government Shivalik School Nangal, and Singhpur Plassi Community Center.
He appealed to the people not to go near rivers and canals during this time. Today, a father and son from a migrant family went fishing in the river near Garbaga but were safely rescued with the help of local residents.
It is noteworthy that teams of Nangal Sub-Divisional Magistrate Sachin Pathak, DSP Kulveer Singh, Sri Anandpur Sahib Sub-Divisional Magistrate Jaspreet Singh, and DSP Ajay Singh are also working on the ground in the Sri Anandpur Sahib area.
