14,341 cases disposed off in National Lok Adalat at District Rupnagar

As per the directions of the National Legal Services Authority, New Delhi, and the Punjab State Legal Services Authority, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali), the second National Lok Adalat of the year 2026 was held across District Rupnagar and its sub-divisions—Sri Anandpur Sahib and Nangal—at various courts.

The National Lok Adalat was held under the leadership of District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairperson, District Legal Services Authority, Rupnagar, Manjot Kaur. During the Lok Adalat, approximately 14,341 cases of various categories were disposed of, including civil cases, compoundable criminal cases, NI Act cases, bank recovery cases, land acquisition cases, matrimonial disputes, motor accident and insurance claim cases, LAC cases, revenue cases, water bills, and traffic challans. Pre-litigation cases were also taken up.

A total of 06 benches were constituted at Rupnagar, 01 bench at Sri Anandpur Sahib, and 01 bench at Nangal. Additionally, 18 benches of revenue courts and 01 bench of the Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission were also set up. Out of 14,834 total cases, 14,341 cases were settled and awards amounting to approximately ₹9,57,44,496 were passed.

CJM-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Rupnagar, Amandeep Kaur, stated that Lok Adalats have always proven to be an effective mechanism for amicable settlement of disputes. She highlighted that the entire court fee paid by the parties is refunded, and no appeal lies against the awards passed by the Lok Adalat benches.

She further informed that help desks were set up by the District Legal Services Authority, Rupnagar, to assist litigants, where Para Legal Volunteers performed their duties efficiently. The next National Lok Adalat is scheduled to be held on September 12, 2026.

Amandeep Kaur also informed that, with the objective of promoting participatory justice and ensuring “justice at the doorstep,” the Supreme Court of India has initiated a Samadhan campaign starting from April 21, 2026, which will conclude with a Special Lok Adalat on August 21, 22, and 23, 2026. Additionally, Special Lok Adalats for cases under Section 138 of the NI Act will be held at Rupnagar, Sri Anandpur Sahib, and Nangal on July 18, 2026, and November 21, 2026.
