Today, Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC), a premier recruiting agency for the Punjab Government has given the charge of commission’s chairman to Harmohan Kaur Sandhu who is the lone member of the commission. Harmohan Kaur Sandhu was appointed on August 20,2019 by the Capt Amarinder Singh led Congress government. The term of Harmohan Kaur Sandhu as member is going to expire on August 19,2025.

Sandhu is the third woman to be appointed as Chairperson of the commission.   She is also the second officiating chairman of the PPSC in the last two years.

The first woman chairperson was former MP, Santosh Chaudhary. Than in April 10, 2023 PPSC member professor Jamit Kaur Teji was appointed as officiating chairperson of the PPSC. She was retired on September 29, 2023.Now, Harmohan Kaur sandhu is appointed (with additional charge) as Chairperson of the commission.

Harmohan kaur Sandhu, a writer and columnist is a daughter of Punjabi satirist Gurnam Singh Tir. She is better known as Bubbu Tir in literary circles.

PPSC

The state government has already invited the application on 26.11.2024, 14.12.2024, 24.12.2024 and January 13,2025  for the post of Chairman. The deadline for submission of applications is 5:00 PM on March 15, 2025.

Earlier, Jagbans Singh Powar, former director general, National Academy of Audits and Accounts, was appointed Chairman by former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and after his term ends, Jamit Kaur Teji , member was appointed as officiating chairperson of the PPSC by AAP government.

History of PPSC

Joint public service commission, the precursor of the Punjab public service commission, with its writ running from the Khyber pass to the Jamuna near Delhi, was born at Lahore on May 1,1937. In the wake of the partition, the Punjab public service commission re surged in February, 1948, at Shimla with its revised jurisdiction extending over the then province of east Punjab. following the merger of the states of Punjab and PEPSU, it shifted to Patiala on Nov.1st,1956. On 1st Nov 1966, its territorial jurisdiction again decreased due to the formation of the states of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh
