55th DC Patiala takes charge, seeks blessings of almighty, parents and engages with public, officials

Young IAS officer of the 2014 batch, Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, today assumed charge as the new Deputy Commissioner of Patiala. On the occasion, he stated that as per the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, ensuring that the benefits of Punjab Government’s flagship schemes reach beneficiaries at the grassroots level will be his top priority.

Dr. Aggarwal emphasized that along with administrative reforms, his key agenda will include infrastructure development, improvement in sanitation and traffic management, youth and women empowerment, drug de-addiction, and strengthening education and healthcare services. He also stated that ongoing development works in the district will be closely monitored personally to ensure their timely completion. Addressing public grievances by understanding their concerns will remain a priority, he added.

Interacting with the media, Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal said that under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, realizing the vision of a ‘Drug-Free Punjab’ and ‘Rangla Punjab’ will be among his key priorities. He added that ensuring doorstep delivery of benefits under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana and the ‘Maava-Dhiyan Samman Scheme’ will also be a focus area. He further said that special efforts will be made to provide transparent and time-bound government services to the public. He also mentioned that cooperation of social organizations in the city will be sought through the Red Cross for public welfare initiatives.

Before assuming charge, Dr. Aggarwal paid obeisance at the historic Gurdwara Shri Dukh Nivaran Sahib and Mata Shri Kali Devi Temple, praying for the prosperity, progress, and well-being of the district. On this occasion, SGPC member Surjit Singh Garhi, Head Granthi Giani Pranam Singh and Manager Bhag Singh of Gurdwara Dukh Nivaran Sahib honored him with a siropa, while priests at Kali Devi Temple presented him with a chunri and prasad.

Notably, Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, a 2014-batch IAS officer, secured 28th rank in the UPSC and holds an MBBS degree from Baba Farid University of Medical Sciences. He has previously served as Deputy Commissioner in Jalandhar, Fazilka, and Gurdaspur, as ADC in Mohali and Amritsar, and as SDM in Hoshiarpur.

Dr. Aggarwal had topped his Class 8 examinations in 2001 in Ferozepur district with 97% marks, and it was then that he set his goal of becoming a Deputy Commissioner.

A gold medallist from Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie, Dr. Aggarwal has received several national recognitions. He has also been awarded twice as the Best District Election Officer and has received a state award under ‘Invest Punjab’. He was also specially honored by the Chief of Army Staff last year for his outstanding services during the India-Pakistan conflict.

At the time of assuming charge, his mother  Shakuntala Aggarwal, father  Surinder Aggarwal, and daughter Isha Aggarwal were present. His wife, Komal Mittal, also a 2014-batch IAS officer, is currently serving as Deputy Commissioner in Mohali (Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar).

On the occasion, ADCs Damanjit Singh Mann and Simarpreet Kaur, SP Palwinder Singh Cheema, SDMs Naman Markan, Richa Goyal, Kala Ram Kansal, Harjot Kaur Mavi, APS Somal, Gurdev Singh, and District Revenue Officer Harsimran Singh, along with other officials and staff, warmly welcomed the new Deputy Commissioner with bouquets.

Dr. Aggarwal held a brief meeting with district officials to review key schemes and also visited the District Administrative Complex, where he interacted with citizens and listened to their grievances.

Upon his arrival at the District Administrative Complex, a contingent of Patiala Police presented him with a ceremonial Guard of Honour.
