87 batch IAS officer appointed as new Finance Secretary

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal of appointment of Ajay Seth, IAS (KN:87) as Finance Secretary.
Ajay Seth, a 1987 batch IAS officer from Karnataka cadre, is currently serving as the Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs, Seth fills the vacancy created by Tuhin Kant Pandey’s recent appointment as SEBI chairman.
As per the rule, the senior-most secretary in the Union Finance Ministry is designated as the Finance Secretary.
He is BTech(Mechanical From IIT Roorkee and an MBA from Ateneo De Manila University. He brings over three decades of expertise in public finance and social sector administration. His experience spans budgeting, tax policy, foreign investments, bilateral and multilateral financial cooperation, development financing, and public-private partnerships.
