Mata Gujri College confers 943 degrees in Convocation
Fatehgarh Sahib-As many as 943 graduates and undergraduates were conferred degrees and 25 brilliant students honoured with Gold Medal during annual convocation of Mata Gujri College held here on Saturday. Dr. Daljeet Singh Cheema, Former Education Minister, Punjab was the chief guest while Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha, Principal, Khalsa College, Patiala delivered the convocation address.
Cheema urged the youth to follow their great history and adopt positive attitude in life. “Getting education on this great land of martyrs is a big opportunity in itself. This land has not only witnessed the martyrdom of the Mata Gujri ji and younger Sahibzadas but the voice for protection of human rights was also raised from here”, said Dr. Cheema
Encouraging the teachers to infuse the habit of reading in the students, Dr. Cheema further added “Getting a degree is a step towards success in life, not the destination. To achieve success in life, students should be more focused on getting practical knowledge.”
In his convocation address, Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha exhorted youth to adopt learning as a continuous process. He said, “Education plays the most important role in the development of any country and it is a matter of great pride that girls are leading in various fields and it not only strengthened the women empowerment as they are making valuable contributions in the development of the country.”
He emphasised that educational institutions should provide quality education as education enlightens a person in real sense.
Dr. Kashmir Singh, Director Principal in the annual report of the college highlighted its multi faceted achievements and initiatives to provide quality education.
The degrees were awarded to the students who have completed PG/UG courses in the session 2013-14. These students included 36 of MBA, 112 of MCA, 33 of M.Com, 7 of M.Sc. (Bio Technology), 24 of M.Sc. (Chemistry), 11 of M.Sc. (Food Technology), 27 of M.Sc. (Mathematics), 13 of M.Sc. (Physics), 5 of M.Sc. (IT), 29 of M.Sc. IT (Lateral Entry), 14 of MA Economics, 11 of MA English, 22 of MA History, 24 of MA Punjabi, 10 of MA Journalism & Mass Communication, 14 of B.Sc. (Biotechnology), 10 of B.Sc. (Medical), 85 of B.Sc. (Non Medical), 43 of BBA, 75 of BCA, 35 of B.Com, 33 of BAF, 84 of BCP and 186 of BA.
Ranjit Singh Libra, Additional Sectary, College Management Committee extended a vote of thanks to the distinguished guests. Prof. Bikramjeet Singh Sandhu, Dean, Academics and Controller of Examination conducted the stage efficiently.
