Sameer Shergill becomes the youngest ever Punjab state chess champion

Sameer Shergill of Mohali won the Blitz section of the Punjab rapid and blitz chess championship 2024-25.Organised by Rupnagar District Chess Association on behalf of Punjab State Chess Association Under the aegis of All India Chess Federation at G.M.N. Senior Secondary School Rupnagar .

At just 12 years age, he became the youngest ever state Blitz champion. The second and third places were won by Neelaksh Sharma of Ludhiana and Utkrisht Tuli of Jallandhar respectively.

Rapid section was won by Tuli. Second and third places were grabbed by Rohit Kumar and Sameer Shergill. The winners would represent the Punjab state in national Blitz and Rapid championship to be held at Jharkhand.

Rupnagar MLA Dinesh Chadha gave trophies to the winners. Gurjeet Singh of Rupnagar Chess association thanked the dignitaries and congratulated the players .
