Today, Patiala police has recovered 7 Rockets, bombs from Patiala-Rajpura road. The recovery has sent the police, intelligence into a tizzy this morning.
Earlier in the day, Lahori Gate police station officials said that “they had received a call from traffic police ASI Amarjit Singh that some ammunition (rocket launchers, bombs) were lying abandoned in a vacant plot near Locham Hotel on Patiala-Rajpura road. The police station team reached on the spot and collected the ammunition”. Later the ASI took the bag to Lahori gate police station in an E-Rickshaw”. The whole incident highlighted the working of Patiala police.
As per eye witnesses,” the police officials came and inspected the ammunition without cordoning off the area, without using any precautions. Even the public remain standing, watching the activities of Patiala police. The officials failed to cover the rockets, bombs with sandbags to avoid any misshapenning. The movement of public in the vicinity was not diverted or restricted. The tragic part is that they themselves collected the whole ammunition in a bag and took the same in an E-Rickshaw.”
An eye witness on the condition of anonymity said “when the whole incident is highlighted the police brought back the ammunition and placed the same at another place, near PRTC workshop. Later the SSP Patiala Nanak Singh came, bomb disposal squad was called and the whole drama of inspection was done.”
The version of SSP Patiala Nanak Singh was different what the ASI had said earlier when they took the ammunition to Lahori Gate police station. SSP said “the Patiala police have received information from a passerby that 6-7 rockets are recovered. The police along with bomb disposal, anti sabotage teams reached immediately at the location.” SSP added that preliminary investigation done by the bomb disposal, anti-sabotage team has not found any explosive material in the rockets.”
“It seems that some scrap dealers has left the material at a vacant plot. We will investigate the whole matter. Presently i am not ruling out anything. We will investigate the matter in a technical way and will seek the help of Army” added the SSP Patiala Nanak Singh.
The Patiala Police’s unprofessionalism and carelessness in handling abandoned ammunition come to light. When contacted the SSP on the handling of the whole recovery in an unprofessional way, he said “i was present their when the checking was done by bomb disposal squad.” He vehemently denied the handling of matter by local police in unprofessional way.”
