PSPCL engineer nabbed by Vigilance Bureau for accepting bribe

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, has arrested Jarnail Singh, posted as Junior Engineer (JE) of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), Sub-division office, Kotkapura in Faridkot district red-handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 10000.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the VB stated that the case was registered based on a complaint filed by a resident of Kothe Chahal Singh, in Faridkot.
“The complainant has approached the VB alleging that the aforementioned JE has demanded Rs 20000 to shift his tubewell connection and installation of a domestic power meter at the residence of his acquaintance. Upon the complainant’s request, the JE agreed to accept the bribe in two instalments”, he said.
The spokesperson further added that following verification of the complaint, a vigilance team from Ferozpur range laid a trap during which the above said accused has been caught red-handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 10000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
In this regard a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the JE at VB Police Station, Ferozpur Range. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow, and further investigation was under progress, he added.
