3.5-Acre Miyawaki Forest to Come Up at Patiala; project to be executed within 3 months by EcoSikh plantation team

A 3.5-acre Miyawaki forest is set to come up at the Patiala Focal Point, as part of a green initiative by the Municipal Corporation Patiala in association with Vardhman Special Steels Limited (VSSL). The project was formally launched today near the Material Recovery Facility Centre.

Sharing details about the initiative, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Patiala,  Paramvir Singh, said that two Miyawaki forests will be developed in the area, with execution to be completed within three months by the plantation team of EcoSikh.

He added that the project is being undertaken by VSSL under its CSR initiative Project Prakriti. The forest will include approximately 35,000 saplings — at a density of 10,000 plants per acre — featuring 45 varieties of native and fruit-bearing species.

The official commencement of work was marked today by Superintending of the Municipal Corporation, Er Engineer Gurpreet Walia along with his team and representatives from VSSL.

Amit Dhawan, Senior CSR Manager at Vardhman Special Steels, shared that this is the eighth Miyawaki forest being developed by VSSL in Punjab, following successful plantations in Ludhiana and Amritsar. He added that VSSL is committed to developing a total of 1,000 acres of forest in Punjab under the leadership of the company’s Managing Director and Vice Chairman,  Sachit Jain.

3.5-Acre Miyawaki Forest to Come Up at Patiala; project to be executed within 3 months by EcoSikh plantation team. As part of the agreement, Vardhman Special Steels will maintain the forest for a period of three years before handing it over to the Patiala Municipal Corporation.
