Punjabi University Environment Society organised Nukkad Nataks

Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, Sector – 26, Chandigarh has sanctioned funds to Punjabi University Environment Society (PUES) organize Nukkad Nataks on the various topics under mission LiFE.
The objective of Nukkad Nataks is to generate awareness under 7 themes of Mission LiFE i.e. Save Energy, Save Water, Say No to Single Use Plastics, Reduce E-Waste, Adopt Sustainable Food Systems, Reduce Waste and Adopt Healthy Lifestyle among the students of University, Colleges, schools and village folks.
Total 13 Nukkad Nataks have been played three in each district i.e. Sangrur, Barnala, Mansa and Bathinda and one has been played in Punjabi University Campus, Patiala on 28-04-2025.
Dr. Onkar Singh Brraich, General Secretary, PUES and organizing secretary of these events has explained that environmental awareness programmes are being organized at various platforms but they are unable to create any impact on students and village folks, but, Nukkad Natak is a type of street play that is proudly associated with our magnificent cultural history and it is one of the oldest form of storytelling and was used in direct communication and connecting with the general public on important issues.
Prof. Balraj Singh Saini, Dean Colleges, Punjabi University, Patiala acted as Chief Guest. He addressed to the audience and said that environment is degrading with a very high pace and it need to be curved by generating such awareness programmes.
He applauded the efforts made by the organizers. Prof. Minni Singh, Dean Faculty Life Sciences acted as Guest of Honour. Dr. Rupali Bal Scientist, Punjab State Council for Science and Technology participated in this event and said that the sustainable as well as inclusive development can halt the menace of climate change.
Prof. Ajita, President Punjabi University Environment Society that Nukkad Nataks are such street plays, anyone can watch free of cost in open places and these are mainly designed for common people to understand easily. She further said that now it is a high time to generate awareness about burning issues of the environment amongst the general masses through Nukkad Nataks.
Miralini Parmar, M.Sc. Environmental Sciences applauded the various environment issues through this Nukkad Natak. Almost 250 teachers and students attended this play.
