Punjab’s Power Minister visits Vedanta Power’s TSPL, Punjab’s largest thermal plant

In a significant step toward ensuring power readiness for the ongoing summer season, Punjab’s  Minister for Power and PWD,  Harbhajan Singh ETO, visited Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL), a Vedanta Group company and North India’s largest private thermal power producer, located in Mansa. With an installed capacity of 1980 MW, TSPL currently caters to nearly 30% of Punjab’s total electricity demand.

The ministerial delegation included MLA Sardulgarh  Gurpreet Singh Banawali, Principal Secretary, Department of Power & CMD, Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd. (PSPCL)  Ajoy Kumar Sinha, Er Harjit Singh, Director Generation, PSPCL and other senior officials from PSPCL and local administration. The visiting team was received by TSPL Chief Operating Officer  Pankaj Sharma, along with other senior leadership from the company.

The minister conducted a detailed tour of the TSPL plant, reviewing real-time operations and evaluating the facility’s readiness to meet Punjab’s peak summer power demand,typically driven by the paddy season starting early June and extending through the kharif period.

Speaking during the visit,  Power Minister  Harbhajan Singh ETO said, “I visited Talwandi Sabo power plant today and I am satisfied with the operations. All three units, each with capacity of 660 MW, are running efficiently, and the systems in place reflect proper planning. The government is committed to ensuring smooth and reliable electricity supply for the people of Punjab.”

The Minister’s delegation also participated in a plantation drive within the facility’s extensive green zone. TSPL has developed over 800 acres of green belt, covering nearly 85% of Mansa district’s total green area, showcasing the company’s active role in environmental conservation alongside industrial operations.

 

MLA Gurpreet Singh Banawali acknowledged TSPL’s social initiatives in the region, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare, and skilling and sustainable farming that have led to livelihood enhancement in the region.

TSPL’s leadership reaffirmed their commitment to uninterrupted power supply and responsible business operations. COO  Pankaj Sharma emphasized TSPL’s alignment with Punjab’s energy needs and its continued investment in sustainable growth and community development.
