Retirement benefits disbursed on the same day, a first in university history-VC

Guru Nanak Dev University marked a historic moment by organising a special ceremony to honour eight retiring senior faculty members and non-teaching staff. Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Karamjeet Singh hosted a tea gathering to felicitate the retirees, lauding their invaluable contributions to the university’s academic and administrative domains. Prof. K.S. Chahal, Registrar was also present on this occasion.
In a first for GNDU, retirement benefits were disbursed as cheques on the very day of retirement, a feat made possible through the efficient functioning of the accounts department under Dr. Karmjeet Singh’s guidance.Addressing the gathering, Dr. Karmjeet Singh credited the university’s progress over the past six months to the collective efforts of its faculty and staff. He highlighted GNDU’s growing global recognition and its proactive engagement in development activities aligned with contemporary demands.
The Vice-Chancellor urged the retirees to continue contributing to the university’s growth through their expertise and suggestions. Emphasising the role of technology in the era of Artificial Intelligence (AI), he noted that retirees could leverage digital tools to support GNDU’s development from the comfort of their homes.The retirees included Prof. Sarbjot Singh Behl from the Architecture Department, Dr. Parminder Singh from the Mathematics Department, Dr. Anjali Mehra from the School of Social Sciences, Dr. Amarjit Singh from the Centre on Studies in Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Dr. Amarjit Kaur from the Microbiology Department, and Kimmati Lal from the Health Centre.
The retirees expressed gratitude to the university administration, attributing their professional success and personal well-being to GNDU. They pledged to remain available for the university’s future needs, ensuring continued support.Dr. Karmjeet Singh reiterated GNDU’s vision to rank among the world’s leading universities, rooted in the teachings of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. He announced plans to introduce new courses aimed at fostering students’ holistic development and equipping them to contribute meaningfully to society. The ceremony concluded with a collective commitment to uphold Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teachings, promoting contributions to social and educational advancement. The event underscored GNDU’s dedication to honouring its staff while pursuing academic excellence and societal betterment.
